For centuries, Ireland has been associated with the cultivation of the potato. Popular legend credits Sir Walter Raleigh with their introduction at Youghal, Co. Cork. In any case, the crop was well established in Ireland in the 17th Century and remains so up to today. Ireland's mild climate, coupled with a well distributed rainfall provides ideal conditions for potato growth, and helps ensure production of the highest quality. Successive Irish generations have recognised the value of the potato, it's versatility and contribution to health.
When it comes to potatoes, there is no more discerning palate than the Irish palate and Sam Dennigan and Company have been the most innovative and progressive market leader in this quality - concious market supplying wholesale, retail, catering, fresh chip trade, salad potatoes and potatoes for processing (frozen chips).
Over 90% of the potatoes handled by the Company are Irish grown/locally produced. The Company handles over 30 lines of potatoes, the main varieties being Rooster, Kerr’s Pink, Record, Golden Wonder, British Queen, Cultra, Maris Piper, Markies and salad varieties Maris Peer, Agata and Nicola.
